Pumpkin Paratha Recipe Ingredients

  • Half a pumpkin
  • 1 cup wheat flour
  • 200 grams paneer
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 1 tbsp. finely chopped onion
  • 1 tbsp finely chopped coriander leaves
  • 1/4 tsp garam masala
  • Salt
  • Water, as required
  • 1 tbsp. white sesame seeds

Pumpkin Paratha Recipe (Step-by-Step Instructions)

1. Preparing The Dough

Start by taking 1 cup of wheat flour in a large mixing bowl. Slowly add water, little by little, and knead it into a soft, smooth dough. Make sure the dough is not too sticky or too hard; it should be pliable and easy to roll.

Once kneaded, cover the dough with a wet cloth to prevent it from drying out and rest it for about 15-20 minutes. This resting time helps develop the gluten in the dough, making it easier to roll out later.

2. Cooking And Mashing The Pumpkin

Wash the pumpkin thoroughly and peel it using a vegetable peeler. Chop it into small pieces to speed up the cooking process. Steam or boil the pumpkin until it becomes soft and can be easily mashed. You can use a steamer, pressure cooker, or microwave for this step.

Once cooked, drain the excess water and mash the pumpkin using a fork or a potato masher until it is smooth. Before moving on to the next step let it cool.

3. Preparing The Filling

In a large mixing bowl, combine the mashed pumpkin with crumbled paneer, finely chopped onions, and fresh coriander leaves. Add 1 tablespoon sesame seeds, 1/4 teaspoon garam masala, and salt to taste.

Mix all the ingredients well until the ingredients are well combined. The stuffing should be moist but solid so that it can be easily stuffed into the dough and does not spread.

4. Shaping The Parathas

Divide the dough into small, equal portions and roll them into smooth balls. Take one ball and roll it into a small circle of about 4-5 inches in diameter using a rolling pin. Place a tablespoon of pumpkin-paneer filling in the center.

Bring the edges of the rolled dough together and seal them tightly, ensuring that the filling is completely enclosed. Flatten the filled dough ball slightly and roll it again into a round paratha, about 6-7 inches in diameter. Use gentle pressure to prevent the filling from breaking.

5. Cooking The Parathas

Heat a griddle or tawa on medium heat. Lightly grease it with oil or ghee to prevent sticking. Place the rolled paratha on the hot griddle and cook for 1-2 minutes until golden spots appear on the bottom side.

Flip the paratha and apply some oil or ghee on top. Cook the other side as well until it is golden brown and crispy. Make sure both sides are cooked evenly. Now for the remaining dough and filling, repeat the same process.

6. Serving The Pumpkin Parathas

Serve the hot Pumpkin Parathas immediately with green chutney, curd, or pickle. To enhance the taste, you can sprinkle sesame seeds or butter on the parathas.
